UDHR Article 26:(1) Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.
(2) Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace. (3) Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children. |

Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) is an international non-governmental organization based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. HREA was founded in 1996 by Felisa Tibbits. The organization offers a variety of high-quality services and resources, including e-learning courses, an online clearinghouse of education and training materials, and a network of human rights defenders and educators.
Youth for Human Rights
Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2001 by Dr. Mary Shuttleworth, an educator born and raised in apartheid South Africa, where she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of discrimination and the lack of basic human rights. Youth for Human Rights offers a variety of educational materials; the 10-minute documentary "The Story of Human Rights" can be viewed on their Web site, along with short PSAs for each of the 30 rights defined in the UDHR. The Education Package includes a DVD with the documentary and PSAs, a collection of posters, What are human rights? booklets, and an Educator's Guide with lesson plans and curriculum guides.

Amnesty International UK: Education
The UK section of Amnesty International has a large collection of resources for educators, including information on specific human rights topics (e.g. terrorism and security, child soldiers, freedom of expression, the arms trade), activities and lesson plans, and a section on fiction and human rights with book recommendations. Most resources are freely available online and many resources can be ordered in print as well.
