Collaborating with colleagues and fellow activists without the need to meet in person is becoming increasingly easier and more effective. 
  • Google Drive allows users to create and edit documents, presentations, and spreadsheets simultaneously, leave comments and notes to each other, track changes, and even instant message fellow editors during the process. 
  • Google Hangouts is a free video chat service which can include up to 10 people. The service works on computers, and both Apple and Android devices. Google Hangouts are a great way to have live conversations without worrying about geography.
  • Meetup.com is an online network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize or find a local group. Amnesty International Local Washington, DC Chapter on Meetup.com.

  • With mobile Twitter settings, tweet and set up Twitter notifications via text messages. No need for a smartphone. More on using Twitter and Facebook without the Internet here.
  • PollEverywhere.com: Create live Web polls to which participants can respond via text message from any mobile device.
  • QR codes are a kind of matrix barcode which can be scanned by smart phones and other mobile devices, particularly to mobile web sites or apps. QR codes can be an effective way to promote your group's online presence or campaigns. You can easily generate QR codes using bitly.com, an online bookmarking and URL shortening service.

  • Youth for Human Rights Education: A really rich, high-quality app from Youth for Human Rights International. This free app includes the "Story of Human Rights" documentary, all 30 Human Rights PSAs, interactive lessons and a virtual classroom.
  • United Nations Declaration of Human Rights: In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this app, developed by the United Nations, includes the full text of the UDHR.
  • AI Candle: This app from Amnesty International includes human rights news and online actions and petitions.
  • Human Rights Watch for iPad: This app brings you the weekly human rights news from around the world as well as Human Rights Watch’s in-depth reports, allowing you to learn more about current challenges and opportunities to create change.
  • Human Rights: A simple app which includes the full text of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
